What is a Moon sign?
A layer beyond your Sun sign: emotions, habits and the inner world in astrological interpretation.

A Moon sign is one interpretive layer, not a complete personality description or psychological assessment.
What does Moon sign mean?
Your Moon sign is the zodiac sign occupied by the Moon at your birth, in the zodiac system being used. It does not need to match the Sun sign that people usually mean by “my sign”. They describe the positions of different celestial bodies. The Moon’s sign, phase and house are also distinct: its zodiac position, its phase relationship with the Sun, and its position within a house system.
How does astrology interpret it?
Astrological traditions associate the Moon with emotional reactions, familiar routines, care and a sense of security. You might read a phrase about feeling secure as a prompt to consider your own daily experience. This symbolic language is not a scientific personality test or a mental-health assessment. A few lines about a placement cannot explain an entire person.
How is it calculated?
The Moon’s position is calculated using the birth date and correct time information. If the time is unknown, its movement across the whole birth date needs to be considered. On a day when the Moon changes signs, a date-only result can be uncertain. Reading its house placement also requires a reliable birth time, a birthplace and a selected house system.
What questions can you bring to a reading?
Which routines help you feel settled? How do you respond to change? How do you express your needs in close relationships? Reading with questions like these can support reflection without reducing yourself to a label. Consider connections with the Sun, ascendant and other placements too. Do not infer a definite future or relationship outcome from one symbol.
These guides explore astrological traditions and symbolic interpretations. Astrology is not a scientifically validated method of prediction.
